WESTMINSTER TOPPED BY SEVERNA PARK, 1-0, IN STATE PLAYOFFS
Strong defense sends Severna Park back to state field hockey finals.
Goalkeeper Ashley Dalisera registered her 10th shutout of the season
and senior Julie Gardner scored the game’s only goal, as Severna Park
edged visiting Westminster, 1-0, in the MPSSAA Class 4A field hockey
semifinals, yesterday, to advance to its 29th state title game in the
32 year career of head coach Lil Shelton.
Defenders
Julie Gardner, Kendall Pittinger, Sami Kiser and Casey Pohlmeyer
provided plenty of help in front of Dalisera and Pohlmeyer also managed
to assist on Gardner’s goal.
The Falcons (15-3) have allowed
just 10 goals this year, while scoring 123. They will meet Quince
Orchard on Monday night (7:00 pm) at Broadneck as they shoot for their
third straight state title and their 17th under Shelton.
The Falcons won last year’s Class 3A crown, and Quince Orchard is the defending 4A state champ.
For Westminster (14-2), the loss stopped an eight game winning streak.
